DARING BURGLARS.

VALUABLE JEWELS STOLEN. LONDON, Jan. 6. , “It might have been worse,” said Sir Granville Ryrie, referring to the burglary of his official residence in Ennismore Gardens last night, when jewellery and clothing worth £6OO were taken.

Tho whole family is taking its loss philosophically and Lady Ryrie, the chief loser, is not worried at all. Tho thieves, entered tho adjoining house, which was empty, and proceeded along the parapet into Lady Ryrie’s bedroom. Thoy then locked the door. Lady Ryrie was in tho drawing-room alone, Sir Granville and her son and daughter being absent, when a maid announced at 9 p.m. that the doors to Lady Ryrie’s bedroom and to the bathroom adjoining were locked. When the police arrived they immediately forced the bathroom door and found the bodroom in great disorder. The drawers had been opened and clothes were scattered on the floor.

The burglars stole most of Lady Ryrie’s personal jewellery, including a valuable pearl necklace and several diamond rings, and also many articles of clothing. The stolen articles are mostly insured, and a number of valuable articles of jewellery which were in a drawer among clothes wero overlooked. Sir Granville’s clothes and other belongings, which wero in another room, were not touched. The police have obtained fingerprints from the balcony window of the house next door.
