TIAKITAHUNA notes.

(From Our Our Correspondent.) t During • the Easter holidays Mr and Mrs Garner went on a motor tjour covering ia six days 680 odd miles. Leaving Tiakitihuna on Thursday, 14th inst., the route was via Feilding, Rewa to the Main North Road just above Hunterville. Up to this point the road surface was in excellent condition and is to be recommended. Thence onward through Taihape to Waicuru, Ohakune, Raetini, Horopito to Wair larino. At Waimarino rain was falling sid night was settling down. The next f irty-four miles across tho plains were accomplished in darkness. Tokaanu was leached at 8 p.m. next day and a glorious < rive along the edge of Lake Taupo was « ijoyed. At times. the road winds its way (i ong the top of cliffy where a magnificent ■v iew Of the great inland waterway and surrounding country was obtained. A trip i ia Putururu to Arapuni and Hora Hora lias exceedingly interesting. The manner in which the engineers have deviated a l ver such as the Waikato from its natul il bed to a tunnel so that . a dam may 1 9 built across the bed is indeed Bomet ling one can hardly realise unless aotu--1 :ly seen. Spectators were thrilled with 1 te sight of a mechanic going “monkey 1 .shion” along a cable hundreds of feet i love the gorge to adjust a block and 1 ckle. On the Sunday, a perfect day, i iternoon tea was enjoyed in the. Cam--1 ridge Park to . the music of the Munici- ] il Band. Again the road back to Taupo i as taken and the wonders of Wairakei i ere enjoyed. Here all that Rotorua has i id more is Been in a narrow valley over t distance of less than two miles. Other \ Ondera of nature was the Huka Falls and j ratiaha Rapids. Again on the road over 1 le plains where about thirty wild horses i ere counted on a small area through \ astes. of pumice and scrub, up hills ono i which rises 1350 feet in three miles. At 1 st Napier was reached and an easy run t > Palmerston North, which was reached * ; midnight on Tuesday.

ASH HURST. (From our own Correspondent.) On Wednesday evening a service was 1 sld in the Methodist Church, the occa- £ on being the induction bf the first mini ter, Rev. F. J. Parker, to the charge of Ile newly-formed Ashhurst-Bunnythorpe--1 ohangina circuit. There was a large at--1 ndance of church members. The Rev. 3 arker was presented by 3Mr Dixon (Buni vthorpe) and weloomed by Mr Brewer Ashhurst) and the induction was peri >rmed by Rev. H, T. Peat. Messrs Laui mson (St. Paul’s), Fisher (Cuba Street), i ad Passey (Pohangina). also extended a i elcome. There was a large attendance at the c mce held in the Town Hall on Wednest ly evening in aid of the Catholic Church f tnds. The floor was in good condition i id excellent musio was supplied and a I easing supper was provided. It was a l ost enjoyable function and the commit--lie and Mr W. Balmer (secretary) are t > be congratulated.
