THEFT OF GRAMOPHONE.
YOUNG MAN GIVEN A CHANCE. A charge that, on or about November 10 at Palmerston North, he did steal a gramophone, of a value of £l2 10s, the property of Louis Noedl, was preferred against Charles O’Leary, aged 24, before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Accused elected to bo dealt with summarily and pleaded guilty. Senior-Detective Quirke stated that accused was a married man and that this was his first offence. In September last ho had purchased a gramophone on the hire purchase system and two months later he had disposed of it. Altogether, he had paid £5 15s, thus leaving a balance of £6 15s still owing. Accused, on being asked if he had anything to say, stated that ho was willing to make restitution: “I will give you a chance,” stated the Magistrate, in ordering accused to come up for sentence at any time within 12 months and to pay the £6 15s within six months.
