SPEECHES ON ADDRESS-IN-REPLY VALUE OF RESEARCH WORK. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Juno 25. In the course of bis speech during tlie Address-in-lteply debate in the Legislative Council to-day Hon. G. M. Thomson spoke of the value of research work in agriculture and industry and stressed the undeveloped potentialities of the fisheries of the Dominion, both for foods and phosphates. Ho suggest-, ed that naval vessels be used for marine vslcanological observations. Hon. G. J. Garland dealt chiefly with financial matters and criticised t?ie large importations of motor cars iyid the volume of trade with the United States, which he said should bo converted into Empire trade. Hon. R. Moore stressed tho necessity for trade within the Empire and spoke trenchantly concerning industrial troubles-, advocating strong measures against strikers' and strike leaders.
