CANTERBURY MARKETS.

Per Press Association. , CHItISTCHbJ.tCi.I, Juno 25. The potato market lias steamed, for the moment, all'branches ot trade waiting to see now the haretu’s shipment ot 23,000 sacks, which was lanued in Sydney on Tuesday, will sell. This morning’s, cablegram mentioned that some sales had taken-place at ill per ton, but in view of the fact that the shipment is of better quality than those preceding it, and that Tasmanian potatoes were quoted up to £l7 per ton, those who know the tricks of Sussex street are not unduly depressed. 11l spite of the heavy cargo tnat has just arrived at Sydney-and the shipment of a similar quantity by the AVaihora next week, inquiries continue to come to hand, but at prices that do not meet with much local response. For July-August £8 is offered, but £9 is being asked. The AVaihora, on Monday, is taking for - Sydney anything from 20,000 to 25,000 sacks. The market was quiet this afternoon, but values remain unaltered, except that there was a slightly easier feeling. July’s f.o.b. S.i. are quoted at £6 17s (id to £7, and July Septemberspread at £7 15s. Quotations on trucks for next month are- £5 10s. The Katoa will leave for Auckland on Monday with a fair cargo of ryegrass, which is practically unsaleable at the moment. --- Danish cocksfoot is arriving at 65s per cwt, c.i.f., a noticeably low price, and as a result the parity of local seed on trucks is about 5d to 5Jd per lb. AATiite clover values are also affected by the imported seed, 'which is quoted at 110 s to 122 s Cd, c.i.f., per cwt, or Is to Is Id, this bringing the on-truck price of farmers’ undressed to about 9Jd to lOd. Oats are weaker, there being little inquiry. B Gartons are quoted at 3s 10fd to 3s lid f.o.b. S.I. for July, and A’s at 4s 3d. Dry skins commanded fair competition, prices for the fine wools being on a par, while other descriptions were slightly easier. There was good inquiry for heavy and medium hides, prices being unchanged. Light weights were slow of sale and showed a decline of from par to Id per lb. Ivip and yearling ruled firm at previous quoted rates. Calf (weight 61b. to 81b.) showed an_ advance of Id to Id, while light weights under 61b. were considerably easier.
