WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. The sales reported at the afternoon call yesterday on tho Wellington Stock Exchange were Bank of New Zealand at 62s lid, N.Z. Guarantee Corporation ordinary shares at 9s lOd and Huddart-Parker ordinary at 44s 9d. There was a good demand for Government stocks and bonds, with buyers of the 4i per cents at £96 10s and the 5 per cents at £9B 10s. Wellington Gas Co.’s debentures were very firm at £IOO, but holders show no (disposition to accept the price. Bank shares were firm. Bank of Australasia shares at £l4 6s were 6d higher. Commercial Bank shares were in demand at 31s 6d, Bank of New Zealand at 62s Gd and National Bank of Australasia, £lO paid, at £lB. Sellers quoted £45 7s 6d for Bank of New South Wales shares and £ls 10s for Union Bank shares. There were buyers of Equitable Building shares at £9 2s 6d and Wellington Trust and Loan at £6 7s. Gas shares Avere steady, Avitli bids of 23s 9d for Axickland Gas and 27s for Wellington Gas ordinary. National Insurance shares were firm at 78s 9d. Wellington Meat Export shares Avere in demand at 4s 6d. There were buyers of Huddart-Parker ordinary shares at 44s Bd, Union Steam preference at 20s and Ivelburn Tram ordinary at 26s 3d. Wellington Woollen shares Avere very firm, the ordinary at £6 7s and the preference at £6 8s 6d. There Avas a bid of 36s for Westport Coal shares and 42s 6d for Ley-land-O’Brien Timber. ‘ Staples and Co.’s shares Avere in demand at 39s and Ward and Co.’s at 40s. There were bid 9of 53s 6d, cum dividend, for British Tobacco, 36s for Electrolytic Zinc preference, 13s 6d for Taranaki Oil and 34s 3d for Wilson’s Cement.
