It consisted of about £937,500, about £500,000 of which was consigned to the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the remainder going to the International Banking Corporation. The coins of the entire shipment will be weighed at the United States mint here, and then melted into gold bars for storage in San Francisco. It was unofficially stated that tre shipment was for two purposes, partly in settlement of trade balances, and partly to provide interest on payments on Australian bonds held in America.
