OBJECT TO RATE INCREASE
EXTRAORDINARY REQUEST

WANGANUI, June 23. An extraordinary request is to be made to the Wanganui City Council as the result of a public meeting held to-night to discuss the council’s recent decision to increase the rates by £4700 for tlie present year. This decision was the subject of hostile comment at to-night’s meeting, ratepayers describing it as an attempt to discredit the newly-introduced system of rating on the unimproved value. A motion was carried asking the council to withdraw its decision; also to conduct its next discussion on the question on the stage of the Opera House, with the ratepayers as an audience. The ratepayers present expressed their intention of swarming into the council chambers on meeting mgnt lr their request is not acceded to.
