BANKRUPT ENGINEER.

PUBLICLY EXAMINED. A public examination of the affairs of Hugh Victor McKay, a bankrupt engineer, at present residing at Biuinythorpe, was conducted at the Courthouse this morning before Mr G. H. Lang, Registrar of the Supreme Court. Mr Innes appeared oil behalf of the D.O.A. (Mr C. E. Dempsy). Bankrupt was not represented by counsel. On oatlv, bankrupt stated that he had filed his petition at Wanganui on March 13, 1925, and that the proceedings had subsequently been removed to Palmerston North. His statement of assets and liabilities showed unsecured debts amounting to £257 14s lOd and assets estimated to produce £46, comprising £25 for furniture and £2l for book debts. These latter, however, had subsequently proved to be valueless, even though lie had obtained court judgment for them. He had come to Palmerston North from Otago in 1922, when he was about £l3O or ,£l4O in debt, against which he had £24 owing to him. He had received employment in Palmerston North with an engineering firm at £6 per week, but had got further into debt through borrowing money to pay pressing debts. The whole of his wages had gone in household expenses. He knew that he was insolvent when he came to Palmerston North, but later, though he had incurred further debts, he had hopes that lie would be able to recover liis position. His expenditure on liqugr would be very small—not more than 30s per year. He admitted that he had incurred certain debts since filing his petition. _ In August, 1925, he had given his sister £SO to look after for him while lie was in hospital, and since coming out he had twice asked for it, but the money had not been forthcoming. His sister had denied to the D.O.A. that she had ever received this money. This closed the examination.
