WHARF SHED COLLAPSES.
A LOAD OF BASIC SLAG. PRECIPITATED INTO RIVER. THAMES, March 31. The shed oil the Kopuarahi Wharf dropped into the Piako river early yesterday morning. A district settler landed eight tons of basic slag from tho Auckland steamer on Tuesday, but as this was left on the wharf where it obstructed the landing of road metal for tho ferry approaches somo five tons of it were shifted into the shed on Tuesday afternoon by county employees. Fourteen hoursi later a stringer under the shed, measuring 14in by 4in., broke and the shed docking and manure arc now at the bottom of the river.
