TWO HORSES KILLED.
COLLISION AT SPORTS TOURNEY
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April I. Two horses were killed and their riders badly shaken as the result of a peculiar- accident at the Epsom show, grounds during the course of the Thud Mounted Rifles sports tourney. The accident," which occurred in a wide, open paddock, some distance from tho ground where the sports were King held wa§ caused by tho collision of two ’troopers who were exercising their mounts. ' , . Prior to tho commencement ot mn of the events the horses were gallopjprr in opposite directions, when they met head on. / Both riders Troopers R. Fiaher (Patumahoe) and 0. Nicholis (Papatoetoe), . were thrown to tho ground, aud it was first thought that, they had been seriously injured. They were taken on stretchers to the dortor’s tent, and were later conveyed to the hospital for examination. Tho men were badly shaken, but escaped serious injury. Of - tlie two hoises, ono was killed outright, and the other was destroyed a few minutes after tho accident.
