HOLIDAY CRICKET.

RAILWAY CLUBS MEET. VISITORS AT WICKETS. A number of years ago annual friendly cricket matches were played between the Railway Cricket Clubs of Wellington and Palmerston North, but the fixture was allowed to drop. Howover, annual visits have eventuated during tho past season or two and the friendly contests now promise to be resumed. The Wellington club members are the visitors on this occasion, tho game being staged on the Sportsground to-day. Tho rain delayed commencement, but at 11.35 tho players decided to bravo the elements and the local side, accompanied by Gill and Gray, tho opening batsmen for tho city club, made their way to tho wickets. *> McVicar carried the attack for Palmerston North from the upper end, Gray despatching the fourth ball ho received to the boundary lino with a nice carpet drive—the solo contribution of tho over. Mullins bowled a maiden over at the other end, Gray adding a single off McVicar’s and a four off the final ball of Mullins’ next over. Gill finally opened his scoring account with a single past point' off McVicar, but the scoring was slow. A separation was effected at 13, Gray lifting a full pitcher from Mullins into tho hands of Hollier in the long field.—l3—l—ll. Fay, the incomer, opened his account with a single through covers and next ball, a glance to leg, saw Gill run two and add a further four from the overthrow, a wide return passing to the boundary line. A double change was effected in the attack, Hollier relieving McVicar and Ross Mullins. Runs commenced to come steadily, Fay bringing up 30 from a square cut to the boundary, wlr’e free hitting off Hollier added a further 20 m quick time, Gill getting three fours off successive balls. Tho pair had gained confidence and wero adding runs in good stylo, having carried tho total to 83, when White, who had come on at tho top end, effected a separation in his third oyer by penetrating Fay’s defence. The retiring batsman had contributed a nicely played 30.—83—2—30. Macldin w r as tho next batsman and play again quickened, tho new arrival finally opening _ his account with a single, while his partner was adding an odd four. With tho total approaching tho century Macldin had an escape from being run out, but two runs later suffered that fate—a return from tho outfield finding him short of his ground.—lol—3—6. Kelly joined Gill, who was batting strongly, if somewhat uncertainly at times, and the luncheon adjournment found thorn still at tho wickets with the telegraph reading 118 for the loss of throo wickets. WELLINGTON RAILWAY. First Innings. Gill, not out 53 Gray, c Hollier, b Mullins ... ... 11 Fay, b White 30 Macklin, run out ... 6 Kellys not out 7 Extras 11 Total for three wickets 118
