FRACAS AT MELBOURNE.
POLICEMAN FATALLY STABBED. MELBOURNE, Dec. 25. Following an argument between three constables and a number of men, mostly Italians, at North Melbourne, a fight ensued, in which one of the constables, Clare, was fatally stabbed in the groin. An Italian, Dominic Codello, was arrested after a chase and charged with murder. A blood-stained pocket knife was found near the scene of the fight. Codello is alleged to have made a statement to the police acknowledging ownership of the knife.—A. and N.Z. cable.
