SLOW MIGRATION.

RESULT OF DOLE. NEWSPAPER’S COMMENT. LONDON, Nov. 8. The newspaper Sketch says: “It is absurd to expect young men to migrate when they immediately lose the dole by doing so. Only the most enterprising will exchange certainty for uncertainty, even if the certainty is not remunerative and the uncertainty offers a prospect of a higher standard of living.” The paper suggests that Sir Donald Mac Lean’s committee should consider continuing the dole for a limited period to enable migrants to find their feet. This policy would result in an enormous increase in migration. The dole should also be granted to a family remaining in Britain, while the breadwinner was being trained in farm work in the Dominions. —Sydney Sun cable.
