ARCTIC EXPEDITION.
ALGARS-SON’S QUEER CONDUCT.
LONDON, Nov. 7. A special despatch to tho Daily Express from Algarsson’s expedition, written by 'Mason, official cinematographer, from Tromse, states that it was found necessary to depose Algarsson from tho leadership and appoint Worsley captain. Mason says that the fact that the expedition is now safe is due entirely to Worsley, to whom the crew owe their lives.
Mason give 3 an extraordinary account of Algarsson’s conduct. He says he claimed to be the only surviving heir to the throne of Iceland. When the ship was in a gale Worsley was on the bridge for forty hours while Algarsson was below singing oomic songs.
The ship eventually reached Green Harbour after a bad voyage. She struck an uncharted rock, but managed to secure a tow from a Dutch collier to Tromse.
Mason pays a great tribute to Worsley when he says that he sometimes seemed superhuman. When the propeller was broken off he drove the ship on with one blade. When that went he sailed her along the ice in incredible fashion.
The Daily Express says that Algarsson is now proceeding to England.—A. end N.Z. cable.
