RAILWAYMEN’S STATUS.
DEBATE IN NEW SOUTH WALES. CENSURE MOTION DEFEATED. SYDNEY, Nov. 4. Mr Bavin, in the Legislative Assembly, moved the suspension of standing orders for the purpose of moving a vote of censure on the Government, alleging that the Government had denied to members adequate right of discussion on the bill depriving certain railwaymen of their seniority and status.
The vote was equal, 38 for each side, and the Speaker, according to precedent,' voted for Mr Bavin, who moved the motion.
Mr Fitzpatrick moved the application of the gag, but the Government managed to find two supporters and the gag was defeated. After a bitter debate, the censure motion was defeated by 44 to 39. Press Association.
