FRENCH CABINET
MOTION OF CONFIDENCE. CARRIED BY CHAMBER OF DEPUTIES. ' (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received November 4, 12.45 p.m. PARIS, Nov. 3. The Government decided to stand or fall by a vote in tho Chamber on a Ministerial declaration which was presented to the Chamber. The Socialists decided to abstain trom voting. The declaration stressed the financial problem, but failed to reveal the proposed taxation, merely declaring that all forms of wealth must participate. Tho declaration said: “The menace in Morocco has been removed. The French occupy a strong northern frontier lino if rum which suspicious movements can bo watched and suppressed. Twenty-one battalions are returning to France.” The document attributed the painful events in Syria to a wave of agitation sweeping from China to Morocco. “The Government has opened an enquiry and will appoint a Civil High Commissioner. The sole aim of the Government is to hasten in conformity with the terms of tho League’s mandate the time when the people of Syria will be capable of self-govern-ment.” After a debate the Chamber adopted a motion of confidence in the Government by 221 to 189. —A. and N.Z. cable.
