On. being interviewed regarding a paragraph telegraphed from Wellington appearing in the Christchurch Sun commenting on the Speaker’s nbsenee from the Prime Minister's funeral, and alleging some difficulty over precedence the Speaker (the Hon. C. C. Statham). says he attended the service in the vestibule. He was prevented by illness from taking part in the funeral procession, but wa6 represented there by the Sergeant-at-Arms. As to 3any discourtesy shown the Speaker’s office, Mr Statham stated lie preferred to keep silence. It would bo out of keeping with the solemn occasion for a discussion, or controversy on the- matter.
