WARNING TO INTENDING MIGRANTS.

Received May 20, 12.45 p.m. LONDON, May 19. Mr Kirkwood, a Labour member of the House of Commons, writing in the Daily Herald asks: “May I have a corner to warn miners against going to New Zealand. I leave received a letter from Mr Alexander Wood, secretary of the Hikurangi Coalminers’ Union, stating that the miners in New Zealand aro working short time, hat the workers have been dismissed wholesale, that Government assisted migrants aro meeting with bitter disappointment, and that there is a grave risk that newcomers will be used to depress the level of wages. I am also informed, that the housing conditions in the mining camps are a disgrace to ci\ilisation, many families living in tents and hutß, under insanitary conditions, so I say.to miners thinking of going to New Zealand, ‘think before you leap’.”—A. and N.Z. cable.
