NOTES FROM FITZHERBERT.

(From Our Own Correspondent).

A concert arranged by the prohibition party of Palmerston North was hold in the nail, when there was a very fair attendance of the local public. V good programme of songs and musical items by members of the Tui performers was rendered and much enjoyed by those present. Mr Buckley, of Palmerston North, gave an address on prohibition to an appreciative audience. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies present. Mr W. R. Hopcroft acted us chairman of the proceedings and called for a hearty vote of thanks to the performers.

On Friday evening there was a very large gathering of local residents present ut a social arranged by tho church committee in Aokautere. A good programme of songs, dancing, etc., made tho time pass pleasantly for old and young and a very enjoyable evening was spent by all present. A hearty welcome to Aokautere was extended to Rev and Mrs Fanoourt, it being the latter’s first visit to this distriiS. At a suitable interval Mr Fancourt. addressed the gathering and thanked all present for the warm welcome iic and Mis Fancourt had received. Rev. Dent also spoke a few words and thanked all who had assisted in making the social the enjoyable function it had proved to be. Following is a list of those who contributed items: Misses Blockley and Rogerson, Mesdumes Brill and Kendall and Messrs Kendall and Rowbotham. The items were all most enthusiastically received and in every instance the performers had to respond to persistent encores. The accompaniments wore played by Misses Woodfield, Pinfold and Field and Mr H. Kendall.

Alu-ic lor the dancing was provided by Miss Woodfield and Mr Alan Scott extras being played by Miss Winnie Gosling; Jessie Pinfold and Topsy Field and Air A. Brill. An item on (he .xylophone by Mr Alan Scott was also much enjoyed. Mr Walter Gosling officiated as M.C. Refreshments were provided by the ladies and left nothing fo be desired. After the social was over a hearty vote of thanks wus carried by acclamation to the performers and musicians and tho singing of “Auld Lang Syne” und. “Gold Save the brought a very enjoyable evening fo a oosc.
