METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.

On Wednesday the anniversary of the Methodist Sunday School was celebrated by a tea and public meeting. At the former a good attendance did full justice to the good things provided' by the Indies of tiie church. The public meeting was largely attended, being presided over by Kev. H. T. Peat who, in his opening remarks, referred to tiro great loss the Dominion had sustained by the death of the fit. Hon. W. F. Massey. Mr Peat feelingly referred to the late Premier’s life as a citizen and as the leader of this Dominipn. By reason of his great example in life they could look up to him. They all deeply regretted his death and the speaker moved that the meeting express its deepest sympathy with Mrs Massey and family in their sad bereavement. This was carried by the gathering standing for a few moments in silence. The chairman then referred to the efforts of the Sunday school and teachers, whoso work was of a spiritual and uplifting nature for the young children. Rev. J. M. Stewart, of Palmerston North, gave a short address on Sunday school work and congratulated the school on its fine achievement during the past year. 110 expressed the hope that their tuture efforts would be crowned with. God’s bicfeing. Anthems were rendered by the children and choir under the leadership of Mr W. Kggleton. The balance-sheet as read showed a credit balance* of £7 12s 7d.

The secretary Mr J. H. Dixon, gave a very lengthy report on the work during tiie year, this being the 39th annual report of Sunduy school work in connection with the Methodist Church in the township. The report mentioned the loss sustained by the death of Mr L, Lassen, who was a hard worker for tho Sunday school, and by the removal of Mr Print from the district, the latter having been a teacher for 38 years and superintendent for 16 years. Ilia departure from Bunnythorpe they all much regretted. The position of superintendent was now being ably carried out by Mr J. 11. Fouler. The report also reforred to the cradle roll school union examinations, home lessons, attendance at church, Bible class, working bees, missionary boxes and the assistance rendered by the Ladies’ Guild. The roll numbered 65, with 13 in the Bible class. Tho report fully dealt with the work of tho teachers and their duties during the past year. The following prizes were then presented: —Special prizes: Austin Tuliock (presented by Mr G. 11. Bennett), Dorothy Pascoe (presented *by a sympathiser), Joyce Clevely (presented by Mr J. 11. Dixon; attendance and lesson prizes, Agusta. Scheldt, Dorothy Clevely, Faith Eggloton, Nita Jep9on, Marjorie Jcpson, Dorothy Pascoe, Nola Eggleton, Iladdon Dixon, Betty Tuliock. Vida Dixon, Milton Hyde, Roy Clovoly. Cecil Hyde, Joyce Clevely, Rachael Nankivcll, Elton Duthio, Brian Fowler, Dorothy Ramson. Loyal Duthic, Jack Harrison, Polly Eggleton.

A vote of thanks was accorded all those who hud assisted iii making the anniversary a success. On Sunday the services in connection with tiro anniversary toolc place. In the morning Rev. 11. T. Peat was tho preacher and Mr Harris in the evening.

Tho football club’s euchre and dance hold on Wednesday was largely attended and a most successful function resulted. On Wednesday afternoon last Mr ,J. P. Jepson, an employee of the Oroua County Council, met with u nasty accident, having his bund crushed in a concrete mixer. He was removed to the Palmerston North Hospital, where he is now progressing very favourably.
