MUNICIPAL HOUSES.
CHRISTCHURCH WANTS BIG LOAN. Per Proas Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. For the purpose of extending its municipal housing scheme, the City Council has decided to apply to the Government for a large grant;. During the discussion at to-night’s meeting of the council, Cr. D. J. Sullivan, M..P., said it would be just as welt to proceed as quickly as possible. Sir Francis D. Bell was only Prime Minister for the time being and, in his own words, was the leader of a “Lady Jane Ministry,” awaiting execution. However, he was favourably inclined to the council’s application and it would therefore be better to make immediate application. He moved that immediate application be made for the loan of £50,000 for housing purposes in Christchurch. This was carried.
