SHANNON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Tho change of the mail service has brought a protest from, certain quarters. At present there is no north mail from Shannon after 2 p.m. and before 11 a.m. of the following day. Tho mail that leaves Wellington about 6 p.m. is taken on to Palmjrston North and returned by the first train in the morning. It is (jointed out that this interference with our mail service is causing general inconvenience. The opinion is also expressed that if this interference of our mail services has anything tp do with Shannon post office being raised a grade, then the sooner we go back to tho old grade the better. The position has been placed before the Post-master-General.

Constable Blakio arrested an escapee from Porirua at Mangahao. A social gathering will he held at tile end of the month, and the Mangaioro returned soldiers have been asked to assist. A cup has been donated for competition between Levin, Shannon and Mangaoro arid representatives will meet to draw up rules and decide in what form the cup will be corrif eted for. Tli 3 Shannon Bowling Club lias commenced top-dressing the green ready for next season’s play. .Mr T.
