EXPENDITURE OF £6. QUERIED BY AUDITOR-GENERAL. CAMBRIDGE, March 28. At the monthly meeting of the Cambridge Domain Board a surprise was sprung on the members when the secretary read a communication from the Auditor-General who asked on what authority the board expended £6 on the purchase of a silver cup for donation to the Waikato Central Agricultural Association. The Auditor-General stated that if no statutory authority could be quoted lie regretted state tliut the amount donated would have to be refunded to tho board’s account. The board members expressed surprise at the attitude of the department in view of the fact that the donation was intended for an educational purpose. . Mr S. Sims said it seemed rather hard that the board could, not make a small donation for a purpose that was in direct sympathy with the activities of the board. A member: I suppose the only way out of it is for the board to make a refund to the board’s account individually. Finally it was resolved that the Audit Department be written to the effect that the board have the matter under consideration. It was resolved that the matter bo left in the hands of the chairman, Mr Lewis, and the secretary.
