PERSONAL.
Mr George Vercoe, of Wanganui, is at present on a visit to Palmerston North, Mr Vercoe, who is-a graduate of Kentucky University, will occupy the pulpit at the Campbell Street Church of Christ tomorrow. M- Vercoe is pastor in charge of the Matheaon Street Church of Christ in Wanganui and' is president of the Ministers' Association in that town. The death of Sergeant Bartlett Provo occurred at Dunedin yesterday. Deceased, who was 86 years of ago, came to the Dominion in 1863 with Colonel Pitt's volunteers, known as "Pitt's Four Hundred," and he was a member of the first volunteer corps formed in that colony in the fifties. In the Geelong Rifles he saw much service during thi Maori War up the Waikato river, and also at Tauranga and Opotiki. He was a member of the Dunedin City Guards for 25 years, and he held the New Zealand War Medal, Imperial decoration for long service, and New Zealand longservice medals. Ho was a familiar figure in Dunedin at military functions, and also took a very keen interest ,in rowing, and even when over 80 years of age his interest was unabated. He was a first-class shot and a good runner.
