AUSTRALIAN PLANS.
EXPLAINED TO AMERICANS. NEW YORK, Feb. 5. Mr J. A. M. Elder, Australian Commissioner, addressed the State Chamber of Commerce, outlining Australia's financial and industrial conditions. He indicated the plans of the Commonwealth Bank under the new regime, and the work being done. He also said the unification of the railway gauges would certainly bo achieved as a great step towards improvement in transportation in the Commonwealth. Commenting on the position of labour, he pointed out that Mr Bruce contemplates improvements and modification in the arbitration laws.—A. and N.Z. cable.
