BAROMETER FALLING.

SOUTHERLY WINDS. The Government meteorologist wired today:—The indications are for southerly winds, moderate to strong, and backing- by south to east. Expect warm and humid conditions with increasing haze and cloudiness. The barometer is tailing after about twenty-four hours. WEATHER IN DECEMBER. DULL, .MILD AND HUMID CONDITION'S. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 7. The director of the Meteorological Bureau lias issued the following weather statement for the month of December: Dull, mild and humid conditions were associated .with some heavy rainfalls, especially in the North Island and north-eastern parts of the South Island. The returns so far show the heaviest rainfalls were in the Wairarapa. The only parts of the country so far showing that they had less than the average December falls are llokitika, Greymouth, Queenstowti and Clyde. Parts of Central Otago and South Canterbury report more wet weather than usual for summer. Electrical conditions were prevalent, and thunderstorms were reported, chiefly about the sth, 7th and 22nd. Barometer changes were common, but the fluctuations of pressure were more., frequent than phenomenal, though the means for the month were cveryWnerd considerably below the average.
