SLEEP WALKER’S FALL.
STEPS OVER A BALCONY. SEVERE INJURIES SUSTAINED. OPOTIKI. Nov. 27. A serious accident befell Mr Ray Purcell, licensee of the Masonic Hotel, Opotiki, early this morning. Purcell. felj_ from the roof of the front verandah of the hotel on to the footpath, a distance of about 25 feet, receiving a fractured shoulder and other severe injuries. Mr Purcell, who is an enthusiastic member of the Opotiki Rowing Club, attended the annual club opening dpv yesterday, being one of the crew which raced'in a challenge fours for old “salts.” lie retired as usual for the nighf. lie remembers dreaming of stepping, from a launch on to a dinghy, and suddenly finding himself lying on tlie hard ground dazed and injured. He had actually stopped over the rail of the verandah after" getting up from his betj in his sleep, and fell to the ground. His cries for help were answered by Mrs Purcell, and a doctoy wfis summoned.
