BETTER SERVICES.
RAILWAY MINISTER’S STATEMENT. AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. Reference to railway matters was made by the Hqtr. J. G. Coates when speaking at Waimauku on Thursday. "After a good deal of consideration and investigation,” he said, "the department is going to make an effort to give you faster and better services. The trains at present- are too slow. (Hear, hear.) f believe that the service can be greatly smartened up. Our new commercial branch is finding out your needs; how to serve you better. We want all misunderstanding and irritation got opt of the way. The department is there to help—not to retard. A number of improvements have been made in the last lew months, including reductions in freights, representing £•250,000 annually. So long as the railways meet all charges, we are prepared and anxious to make concessions and even to build a little ahead of requirements where' ultimately .development will make the proposition a payable one.”
