RUGBY FOOTBALL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) For the local junior championship game, the weather was ideal, but the ground was heavy. Aioutoa met Shannon at Shannon. Both teams were minus a couple of their best players, but nevertheless the game was keenly contested and in some stages exciting. Shannon kicked off punctually to time with the Wind behind them. Aloutoa started a forward rush, but Hunt picked up well and found the line. From a lino out Shannon became aggressive, but a bad pass by George spoilt a chance. Shannon kept up the attack and P. Morgan worked his way over. Gill’s kicked failed. From the kick-off, the play was mostly confined to the forwards of both sides for some time. Hunt took a mark in front of the gaol ami had a drop kick, but without success. Aloutoa now took a hand, Alorgan, Newth and AlcSavcncv being prominent on several occasions. Newth was nearly over a couple of times, but the Shannon defence was sound, la the second spoil it was thought Aloutoa would have a chance, and the players made determined efforts to reduce the deficiency, hut met with solid defence. Shannon juniors are always a good second spell side, but on the day their game was not of their best. The j black mulled several passes which might I have meant much. Holden scored under the posts, Gill’s kick being successful. Rater Terry got away with the ball and beating several opponents passed to Robinson. who scored. The kick at goal _by AlcEwan failed. Just on the call of time Hunt registered a fine try which AlcEwan failed to convert, the game ending Shannon 14, Aloutoa nil. Mr A. Ale Donald refereed. P.
