TOKOMARU NOTES.
(From Our Ow.i Correspondent.) The Druids were favoured by' a fine evening for their euchre and dance on Friday. The games proved very exciting, three ladies having 10 cut for the first prize and two for the consolation. Aliss S. It. Parr won the ladies’ first prize, a very handsome tray, presented, singularly enough, by' Air \V. H. Parr. Air J. Schwass won the gentlemen’s prize—a pair of slippers. The consolation prizes went to Airs L. Jamieson and Air ltainage. After supper, dancing followed, music being provided by Air and Airs ltamage. Last Saturday week the juniors won by default from Awahou and on Saturday they had a bye. The local unit .of the 6th Alounted Rifles returned from Trcntham on Saturday by the Napier mail after a week’s training. They all seemed enthusiastic about their work und proud of their regiment. . , , Tokomaru experienced a .very cold snap on Alonday. Early in the morning snow was visible on the higher parts of the hills, but later this thawed, undoubtedly causing the cold weather. Airs L. Whyte has returned from Palmerston North after her operation. She is progressing favourably. Sister Kelly has accepted a position in the Old People’s Home at Awapuni. Air Rizzi removed to Shannon on Saturday. The grader is working on the main road just at present, and is engaged in widening it. An error occurred in my Inst report dealing with the gentlemen’s..ball. Several married men were on the working committee and all did their share, so that if local residents will rend the word “gentlemen” for “bachelors” credit will go where it is due.
