BURGLARIES AND FIRES. POLICE BAFFLED. MASTERTON, June 6. Masterton has been suffering from an epidemic of burglaries and fires which are enshrouded it; mystery, and which are baffling all efforts "by ttu police to unravel. As far as the (ires are concerned they have occurred in one block near the Post Office, and some of the shops have also been entered by burglars as well as Buttering from a visitation by fire. A state of uneasiness exists in respect to fire, for it is generally assumed that the fires are the work of an incendiary, and they have been occurring during the past twelve months or more, but have become more pronounced since Christinas. The burglaries total over a dozen. A mysterious burglary and another fire this week have added to the uneasiness.
