HOUSING PROBLEMS.

SCHEME IN GREAT BRITAIN. LONDON, June 4. The House of Commons adopted a resolution providing finances for the Government's Housing Bill, after Mr Wheatley had accepted an amendment withholding contributions in the event of an inadequate supply of labour and materials at reasonable prices. The amendment was the outcome of complaints of the absence of any agreement with the Labour Unions whereby sufficient skilled labour would be forthcoming. , The House of Lords read the third time the Simons Evictions Bill, but with an amendment giving British subjects preference over non-allied aliens and extending the landlords' right to possession to tho landlords' sons and daughters. The amendment will probably be subject to acute controversy when the bill is returned to the Commons, while the House of Lords' action frustrated the Government's intention to enforce the bill before Whitsun.—A. and N.Z. cablee.
