STAFF PICNICS.

The annual picnic of the staff and principals of Messrs Coliinson and Ounninghame, Ltd., and Messrs Coliinson and Son, held on the racecourse at Awapuni yesterday, was thoroughly enjoyed by the 200 people who were present. The cricket match played in the morning resulted in a win for Coliinson and. Cunninghame’s team by a margin of 36 runs. An event which created considerable amusement was the liaka delivered by a party of 12 in fantastic costume. Chieftain, H. Coliinson, delivered an oration in the native tongue which was followed by a translation in English set to the tune of ‘‘Flannelette.” The inclusion of a number of topical hits gave the items an added attraction which proved irresistible. Bonberg and Miss Christensen 2. At the conclusion of the day’s activities, Mr W. L. MacPherson, on behalf of the combined staffs, extended thanks to tho principals, Messrs 11. Coliinson, L. H. Coliinson and J. Cunninghame for having provided such an enjoyable outing. In responding, the principals expressed pleasure at the excellent arrangements made by the picnic committee which had added- greatly to the success of the function. The staff of Messrs C. Smith, Ltd., who also held their annual picnic yesterday, y journeyed to the Manawatu Gorge. The party left by the early morning train and, despite the threatening nature of the elements at that hour, the majority made the journey.
