NEW YEAR TOURNAMENT

The executive of the Manawatu Bowling Centre met this inprning, Mr J. A . Nash, M.P., presiding, when the draw for the first day of the New Year tournament was held. The result was as follows :

Section A.—Pickering (Woodville) v. Morshead (Palmerston North); Grant (Terrace End) v. Neeanam (Palmerston North); Corbridge (Manawatu) v, Griggs (Palmerston North); Roore (Foxton) v. Tantrum (Takaro); Murphy (Shannon) v. Blackburne (Palmerston North). , Section A will play on No. 1 Palmerston North green on Tuesday, commencing at 9 a.m. Section B.—Wilton (Palmerston North) v.Wardrop (Woodville); Ramsay (Palmerston North) v. Rankin (Levin); Bryant (Northern) v. Crump (Palmerston North); Radford (Manawatu) v. C. Pickering (Palmerston North); Bulls a bye. Section B will play on No. 2 Palmerston North green and on the following day the order of play will be reversed.

The president’s action in acceding to the request of the Feilding Bowling Club to hold an electric light tournament in February during the Manchester block celebrations, was confirmed.

TOURNAMENT AT WANGANUI,

JONES’S RINK FIVE WINS

In the North Island rinks championship at Wanganui yesterday, the Palmerston North Club rink skipped by W, Jones won all three games—defeating McNeil (Fitzroy) 26—15, Scrivener (Wanganui) 20—17, and Brass 20—13. This morning Jones • beat Moffat 20—18 after a tie on the 21st head. In tlie seventh round Jones is- playing Foster and with two heads gone was s—o at the luncheon adjournment. The wind is troublesome and the green fast. Jones has had six wins and no losses. Playing in Section B, Pickering (Palmerston North) beat McKenzie 30—16, but lost to Johnson 14—28, and Benefield 17—22. This morning Gordon boat Pickering 23—17. Pickering has won 2 games and lost 4.
