At Marion, Illinois, tho grand jury returned its first indictment in connection with the Herrin massacre, charging a Marion citizen with firing a shot by which he killed Superintendent McDowell, of tho Southern Illinois coal _ mine, and a warrant was immediately issued for his arrest.
