DAIRY FARMERS’ UNION.
ADDRESS BY ORGANISER. LOCAL BRANCH TO BE FORMED. An address to farmers under the auspices of the Daily Fanners’ Union was delivered by the organisin', Mr A. E, Fear, in the lecture hall of the Manawatu A, and P. Association yesterday afternoon. Mr F. W. Hubbard was in the chair and, in opening the meeting, lie stressed ti.,■ necessity for organisation and unity. ’I he labour people were organised, whereas the farmers were not.
A member of I lie Waikato executive, who was in attendance, referred to the esteem in which Mr Fear was held in the Waikato, where his efforts in the last two years had been more profitable to the farmers than the 25 years’ effort of (he organisation which was at present busily engaged in pulling him to pieces. Mr Fear’s address was largely devoted to his exposition of the aims and objects of the Dairy Farmers' Union. In this connection ho emphasised (he need for specialisation on the part of the dairy fanners. They might well take a leaf out of the book of the poultrykcepei's and beekeepers, who had practically doubled their production during the past few years. The production per cow, however, had remained practically stationary for several years past. One of the primary objects of the Dairy Fanners’ Union was therefore to speed up production. At the conclusion of the meeting a resolution was carried unanimously to form a branch of the Dairy Farmers’ Union in Palmerston North and all local and district farmers present signed up as members.
