FIGHT FOR A MINE.
BATTLE LASTS FOUR HOURS'. FOURTEEN .MEN KILLED. Received June 23. 8 a.in. NEW YORK, June 21. At Herrin, Illinois, 14 men were killed, two are dying, ami a score wore seriously wounded in a buttle between coal miners and mine guards lasting four hours. The mine since the strike was being operated by non-union labour. Five thousand strikers .stormed the mine stockade' and tiring begun. The guards were operatives of a private detective agency, and because of their many casualties they hoisted (lie white flag. The miners demanded the cessation of operations and the surrender of the mine, and to this the mine operatives acceded.---A. anti N.Z. cable.
