JERSEY CATTLE CLUB.

LECTURE ON TUBERCULOSIS

At Feilding yesterday Mr R. If. .Meade, M.R.C.V.S., delivered' a very instructive address on the subject of tuberculosis in cattle to the members of tho Manawatu Jersey Cattle (.Tub. Mr' Meade, in stating that tuberculosis

was one of tho commonesi diseases of human beings and animals, said that the disease was caused bv a specific bacillus. The bacilli were often found in the milk of cows and the disease could be spread to human beings from this source. Air Aleade knew of no government that was doing more to check the spread of the disease iliau the New Zealand Government. In this country inspectors were continually on the lookout, for infected animals, bur tho disease was still causing great loss to farmers. He considered that farmers could reduce their losses if they would do more to help tin l Government’s work. Without the assistance of stock breeders no permanent good could result from die work the Government was doing for them. The speaker explained the tuberculin lest winch was used for the detection of the disease. He strongly urged all those present nor to buy animals until they had passed this test satisfactorily. By ihe systematic isolation and treatment of tubercular cows, it would be possible for any farmer in two years to have a herd free from tho disease. Air Aleade was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for Iris address.
