HOCKEY.

WEDNESDAY COMPETITION COMMENCEO. The Wednesday hockey competition was commenced yesterday when Campbell Street Old Boys played Woodville, which has joined in the local competition this year for the first time. The ground was soft and this fact militated against a good display being given, but all the same, Old Hoys performed very creditably and won by 7 goals to nil. The play was not at all one-sided, and Woodville are (o be congratulated on the showing they put up, which was excellent for a team, several of whose members had never played the game before. Old Boys' superior combination and knowledge of the finer points of hockey gave them victory. For the winners goals were shot by Wilson (4), Eitt (2) and Clere. The excellent display of Woodville's goalkeeper was very favourably commented on, he saving many numerous hot attacks by the Old Boys' forwards. Messrs Aitchison and Paton controlled the game.
