AERIAL MAIL SERVICE.
FIRST FLIGHT TO-DAY

(Per Press Association.) TIMARU. Jan. 31. The trial aerial Timaru-Christchurch mail service war. inaugurated to-day by an aeroplane, which accomplished the journey in 1 hour and 4G minutes, arriving at Christchurch at 9.40 a.m. The ’piano stopped at Ashburton to drop and pick up a bag. An altitude of from 500 feet to 1000 foot was 'maintained. A ‘strong headwind was encountered, but the weather was clear after leaving Ashburton. Over 200 letters, besides bundles of newspapers, were carried, ami the ’plane returned at noon.
