HEATHCOTE WILLIAMS SHIELD. PALMERSTON NORTH v. WAITAKI
The last match of the season for the lleathcote-Williaim Shield was commenced ictwcen the Palmerston North and Waitaki Joys’ High Schools on the sportsground this morning. Despite the unsettled nature . of the weather the wicket was in splendid condition, tho outfield being excellent. The local boys, winning the toss, elected to bat and Sollitt and Harrison opened to tho bowling of Craig and Darrah. When the score had reached 25 and the game had been in progress for half an hour CVaig, with a straight ball, took Sollitt’s middle stump.—2s—l—3, Lcet (who made IC4, not out, on Saturday in the match between High School and Midland) followed the retiring batsman. After another 20 minutes play Harrison stenped in front of a straight one from Parks, who had replaced Darrah, and was given out, 1bw.—52—2—30. Iloddor next represented tho local boys at the wickets. During the succeeding couple of overs a. brief adjournment was made on account of the heavy rain which sot in making play impossible. Tho Hodder-Leet partnership proved the feature of the morning’s play. Both batsmen lilt out freely, with the result that the score rose with a rapidity which proved satisfactory to both the local team and its supporters. When stumps were drawn for tho luncheon adjournment this pair had added a total of 87, bringing the score to 126. Tho following are details of play up till the luncheon adjournment: PALMERSTON NORTH.
