WAR MEMORIAL.

SITE TO BE WELLINGTON,

Last session Parliament voted a sum o! £IOO,OOO lor the erection of a national war memorial. Tim Minister of Defence (Sh James Allen) stated at (lie time that this money would not be expended immediately, and that he proposed to set up a committee fo consider plans. His own idea was that the proper site for the national memorial was Wellington. The National War Memorial Committee, which consists of Sir James Allen, Hon, J. G. Coates, Hon. Hr Pomare, Messrs C. J. Parr, J. P. Luke, L., M. Jsitt, \V. 1). Stewart. 1. E. Y. Seddon, and E. Newman (all members of the House of Represented ivi s) met in Wellington this week, and adopted the following resolution: “The memorial should be so-designed a; to embody the objects and sacrifices of the war, and the virtues displayed therein, ii such a- way that they will' be.an education, and an inspiration, not only to present but to future generations, and so be of immeiisi influence in the formation of New Zealand national character.” The coniiimlcc decided also that Hie sit< of the memorial should be in Wellington. It authorised the Mayor of Wellington Ii nominate four additional members of tin committee.
