MILITARY APPEAL BOARD.
TO-DAY'S SITTING. APPEAL OF A BLACKSMITH. Further evidence was taken in the appeal of Edward Walders (Mr Fletcher), blacksmith, Palmerston North. Ililders Bergersen, Palmerston North, said ho was a locksmith and farrier. Ho sold the business and lease to Mr Walders. Tie was quite willing- to cancel tho lease, but would not be able to take over the business on account of the shortago of labour. To Mr Fletcher: He was quite prepared to cancel the lease and would nlaco no obstacle whatever in the way of Mr Walders going. Decision was reserved. \ F-YRMER AND THE EFFICIENCY TRUSTEES. Arthur Hill, dairy farmer, Taikorca, produced further evidence in support, of hid appeal, which was adjourned from last; sitting of the Board. . George Meredeth Mudford, farmer, laikorea, said appellant leased the farm from him, and the lease had 18 months mom to run. To Capt.. Walker: The Efficiency Trustees had approached him with a view to releasing appellant. Capt. Walker: You seem to be getting an unenviable reputation of not helping people to go to the front. Witness: I've never stopped anyone from going. I told the Efficiency Trustees it they would lind a tenant 1 would lease tho place to him. , Capt. Walker: Did you tell the Efficiency Trustees that you wouldn't do a hand's turn to assist appellant to get away. Witness: 1 told them that if they would find a new tenant with £3OO I would ba.ck him for the balance. Capt. Walker: The report of the Efficiency Trustees doesn't say that. According to them you declined to assist in any way. Witness: It, is impossible to find tenants for farms now. I've got one farm of 31 acres shut tip now. and would have to do the same with appellant's it 1 took it back. Decision was reserved.
