From Ouh Own Correspondent. OTAKI, Oct. 12. At the last quarterly meeting of the Otaki Methodist Church Circuit votes of sympathy were passed to Airs B. K. Buchanan, whose husband had been killed in action, and to Mr IT. T. Cooper, of Batkakariki, who had lost a son at tne front. Aliss Row, rT (Jtaki, and Miss Wood man, late postmistress, of Otaki Railwav. are at present spending a holiday in Rotorua and district. Airs Rearless, wife of Olonel Peerless, ol Nelson, has taken up her residence in Otaki. . . While a local Celestial was driving through the township this morning his horse shied, with the result that he f T to the ground. Tho incident caused a laugh from some spectators, which roused his ire. As a result hsticulfs were resorted to, but the Chinaman came off second best. Yesterday’s cold snap was responsible lor a heavy fall of snow on the Tara runs, and in consequence of this tho atmosphere this morning was ol a sharper nature. The simw. however, as quickly disappeared. Mr and Mrs W. F. Edwards, of Otaki, left yesterday lo take up tempoi uy residence in Marion. .Among the games played at the opening of the Otaki green on Saturday were two matches between Levin and Otaki rinks, •vit-h the result that each side scored a win, although on the aggregate Otaki won by a substantial margin. Following are the results, Levin being mentioned first in each case:— Holdaway, Tait,_ Young, Lancaster b) v. Gooding. Larkin, Anderson, Salherloy {».) 22—21; Davidson. Aflm. Young, Lancaster (s.) v. AAebsjer, Ktlrninstor, A. Bright, Bills (s.) 10—27. The president and vice-president of Ihe A'«iclub (Oillver and Ayre respectively) played i game, the former joining witli I'. H. Bright, Watts and Petrie, while tin latter played with Allen, Knight and Young. A keen contest saw Olliver win by one point, 17 —16.
