BROOKES DEFEATS THE CANADIAN. Received July 24, 12.45 p.m. NEW YORK, July 23. The preliminary match for the Davis Cup between Australia and Canada began at Chicago to-day. The first game resulted in Brookes (Australia) defeating Schwengers (Canada), 6—2, 6—3, 6-2.
