AUCKLAND. April 5. Tho Arbitration Court heard a claim by the widow and crippled son of a wharf lumper named Thomas Soleman, who was killed while in the employment of tho Union Steamship Co., for £458 5?, representing 156 weeks' wages. Soleman was loading cargo on the steamer Monowai, and when stepping backward ho fell over the side of the vessel to a barge below and fractured his skull. The evidence showed that defendants offered to settle the claim, but plaintiffs' representative refused to negotiate. The Court found that the dependency of the plaintiffs was established and awarded tho full amount claimed, less £25 already paid.
