PALMERSTON CLUB'S TOURNAMENT. The annual tournament of the Palmerston North Tennis Glub commenced this morning in fine weather. The courts were somewhat heavy, but given continued fine weather they should be in

perfect playing condition by to-morrow, when the finals will be fought out. The whole arrangement of the tournament was excellent, there being no delays. All the leading players who entered turned up, and there was some good tennis during the morning. Prouse and Fisher are the Wellington pair. The former was defeated by D. Graham in the handicap singles, a. result that was not expected, and in the handicap doubles the Wellingtonians had a hard fight to win from Hartgill, a promising Dannevirkc colt, and P. A. McHardy. a Palmerston veteran, who bad a handicap of 23. Another good game was that between Lieutenant Stow, R.N., and Hartgill, in the championship singles. The game was 5 all, but then Stow got away and won the remaining four games. A return match between the present and old pupils of the Palmerston High School was played on the School courts yesterday afternoon.
