This year we have to welcome to the ranks the Wellington Tramway Band, under Bandmaster Clareburt; the Cambridge Town Band; the Opunakc Brass Band, Bandmaster Nichols; and the Waitara Municipal Band, under Bandmaster McConnell. We have- also to welcome to the contest field for the first time the Wansrarmi Cit.v Band. ~ The 1909 contest, held at Hastings, was a great, success, both musically and financially. . .... This year for the first time in tho history of the Association and through the kindness of Messrs Besson and Co., of London, the Besson Shield in the A Grade Competition is to be won outright, and become the absolute property of the champion band for 19.3-0. We have also great pleasure in reporting that Messrs Besson and Co. have kindly donated another Shield for the A Grade class that will be competed for annually under conditions furnished by the donors.

However, the Committee feel they cannot let this opportunity go by without recording its hearty appreciation of his valuable services' rendered to the Association from time to time, and we feci sure we are only echoing the sentiments of all the affiliated members when we say Mr Cohen has been of most valuable assistance in maintaining the prestige and dignity of this worthy institution. Whenever he has presided,' Mr Cohen has always obtained the utmost courtesy and respect, and our meetings have been a pleasure to attend. In conclusion, wc sincerely hope the Association will be as successful and flourishing under the leadership of his successor.

Several late members of the Wellington » Garrison Band have written asking to have their suspensions removed as they desire to join other contesting bands. We recommend same for your consideration.
