At'the Police Court Joseph William 1 Kneebone. of Waihi, was charged with obtaining £771 9s 3d from the Bank at Waihi by a false pretence. Detective McMahon stated accused and two others were the winners of a prize pi £2300 in a Tattersalls sweep on the Launceston Cup, that accused had left with the whole proceeds in company with one of his partners., The partner, Pcnnill, in offering to go bail for Kneebone, said all the money had been forwarded to Australia, where both were going for a holiday trip. He stated two others who claimed to be interested in the ticket had merely agreed to "come in," but had not paid anything on the ticket. The Magistrate refused bail and remanded Kneebone to Waihi.
